Why Insurancy for motorcycle insurance

Built by riders, for riders

Motorcycle insurance is its own world: custom builds, lay-up periods, MSF discounts, passenger limits, gear coverage. Insurancy works with carriers that understand riders and makes sure you are not paying for a one-size-fits-all car insurance bolt-on.

Independent and licensed

Our agents are licensed in your state and shop multiple motorcycle carriers to find the best fit for your bike and riding style.

Custom builds welcome

Aftermarket parts, custom paint, performance mods, vintage restorations - we make sure your build is insured for its real value.

Every type of ride

Cruiser, sport, touring, dual sport, ADV, dirt, motocross, trikes, scooters, mopeds, electric, ATVs and UTVs - we quote them all.

Your data stays private

We never sell or share your information with third-party lead aggregators. Only Insurancy agents contact you.

Common questions

Motorcycle insurance quote FAQ

Everything you need to know about motorcycle coverage, lay-up periods, custom parts insurance, MSF discounts, ATV and scooter policies, and how shopping motorcycle insurance through an independent agent works.

Are these motorcycle insurance quotes really free?

Yes. Comparing motorcycle insurance through Insurancy is 100% free. There is no purchase obligation, no credit card required, and you can compare as many carriers and coverage levels as you want. We are paid by the insurance carrier when you choose to enroll, never by you.

What types of motorcycles do you insure?

Insurancy partners with carriers that cover virtually every two- and three-wheeled vehicle: cruisers, sport bikes, touring bikes, standards, dual sport, adventure (ADV), dirt bikes, motocross, trikes, scooters, mopeds, electric motorcycles, custom and vintage bikes, and side-by-side ATVs and UTVs. If you ride it, we can quote it.

What is the difference between motorcycle liability and full coverage?

Liability covers injuries or property damage you cause to others and is required to ride legally in most states. Full coverage adds collision (damage to your bike in a crash) and comprehensive (theft, vandalism, fire, hail, animal strikes). If you are financing or leasing the motorcycle, your lender will typically require full coverage.

Do I need motorcycle insurance during the off-season?

In most states, yes - as long as the bike is registered, you need at least liability coverage even when it is in storage. Many motorcycle carriers offer a "lay-up" or "storage" mode that pauses your liability and collision premium during off-season months and keeps comprehensive coverage active to protect against theft, fire, and storage damage. Your Insurancy agent can set this up automatically.

Does motorcycle insurance cover my custom parts, accessories, and gear?

Standard motorcycle policies include a small amount of coverage for custom parts and equipment (often $1,000 to $3,000), but if you have added exhausts, fairings, saddlebags, sound systems, chrome, or major engine work, you should add a Custom Parts and Equipment (CPE) endorsement. Most carriers also offer optional safety gear coverage for your helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots if they are damaged in an accident.

How can I save money on motorcycle insurance?

Top savings strategies: shop multiple carriers (rates vary widely), bundle motorcycle with auto or home insurance, complete a state-recognized Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course, maintain a clean riding record, choose a higher deductible, store the bike in a garage, install an anti-theft device, and pay your premium in full annually instead of monthly.

Will my motorcycle insurance cover a passenger?

Most standard motorcycle policies include guest passenger liability coverage, but limits vary by carrier and state. Some carriers exclude passenger medical payments by default. Your licensed Insurancy agent will confirm passenger coverage limits on every quote so you are not caught off guard if a passenger is injured.

Can I bundle motorcycle insurance with my auto or home insurance?

Yes, and you usually should. Bundling motorcycle with auto, home, condo, or renters insurance through the same carrier commonly saves 10% to 25% on each policy. Major carriers like Progressive, Nationwide, Allstate, and Markel offer multi-policy bundles that your Insurancy agent can quote in one conversation.

Will a Motorcycle Safety Course discount actually help my premium?

Yes. Most carriers offer a 5% to 15% discount for completing an approved Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse or an Experienced RiderCourse. The class typically pays for itself within the first year through insurance savings, plus it makes you a safer rider. If you have already completed one, bring your certificate to your Insurancy agent.

Will my car driving record affect my motorcycle insurance rate?

Yes. Carriers consider your overall Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), which includes both car and motorcycle violations, accidents, and DUIs. A clean driving history helps your motorcycle rate; tickets, at-fault accidents, and especially DUIs all increase it. Some specialty motorcycle carriers are more forgiving of older incidents than standard auto insurers.

Do I need uninsured / underinsured motorist coverage on my motorcycle?

Yes, more than on a car. Roughly 1 in 8 U.S. drivers is uninsured, and motorcycle accident injuries are typically far more serious than car-on-car crashes. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage pays for your medical bills and lost wages if an at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough. Most agents strongly recommend matching your UM/UIM limits to your liability limits.

Can I get motorcycle insurance with a DUI, multiple tickets, or a lapse in coverage?

Yes. Several specialty motorcycle carriers work with high-risk riders, including those with a recent DUI, multiple tickets, an at-fault accident, or a lapse in coverage. SR-22 filings are also available where required. Rates will be higher than a clean record, but coverage is available - your Insurancy agent will shop the carriers most willing to write your profile.

How long does it take to get a motorcycle insurance quote?

Most riders complete the Insurancy form in about 2 minutes, then a licensed agent contacts you with side-by-side quotes from multiple carriers. From start to bound coverage is often 15 to 30 minutes. If you have your current motorcycle policy declarations page handy, your agent can match it exactly so you compare apples to apples.

Will Insurancy sell my motorcycle quote information?

No. Insurancy does not sell, rent, or share your contact information with third-party lead aggregators. The only people who will contact you are licensed insurance agents from Insurancy, and only to help with the quotes you requested.

Will checking quotes affect my credit score?

No. Motorcycle insurers use a soft credit-based insurance score for rating, which does not affect your traditional credit score. You can shop quotes as often as you like with no impact on your credit report or FICO.
